Popspots is building a digital operating system for grocery retail that helps grocers and
brands manage space in their stores. As part of this, I have worked to develop custom
hardware that sits on top of the gum and candy racks at the front end of the grocery store.
The hardware consists of a display (to serve advertisements to customers waiting in line at
the grocery store) and a front and rear facing camera (to provide merchandising services for
grocers and large brands).
As a hardware team lead, I make sure we always have reliable products available for
installing in grocery stores. This means I work with mechanical and electrical design
partners to specify our product requirements and review their work as it is completed. I
also work with suppliers and manufacturers by establishing relationships, vetting their
reliability, negotiating deals, implementing quality control procedures, and making sure
that they are meeting our deadlines.
I also work as a senior embedded engineer, which means I am responsible for the robustness
and connectivity of our network of devices. This includes our firmware, embedded software,
and IoT platform. I designed and implemented a new embedded software architecture that
reduced provisioning time by 85% and improved our device reliability by 50%. I also rolled
out a new IoT platform that decreases network usage and latency.
